From Small Changes to BIG Results
I was recently inspired by the Confucius quote “The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.” It reminded that small habits, done consistently, produce BIG results.
It brought me back to my team-leading days at a Fortune 500 company where I was being acknowledged on a region-wide call for producing MAJOR results in my leadership team’s development.
What was my secret they asked? My answer-no development plan should be shorter than 90 days and it should be SIMPLE, something the person can work on everyday.
All over the company I was seeing leaders with super elaborate development plans that they constantly updated and when asked what was on their development plan, or what they were working on, they stared blankely at me- because they had no clue. It had been changed, edited, and gotten so complex, they they couldn’t remember it at all, let alone put it into practice.
My favortite advice I ever heard about any kind of plan or strategy is to make sure it will fit on a cocktail napkin. It should be that short and sweet, so you can remember it and most importantly, WORK ON IT DAILY. All the other stuff is just fluff and will actually get in the way of you achieving what you set out to achieve in the beginning anyway.
